India and Juliet Squads

(10/30/09)

Commissioned by “eternallylostryouga” on my behalf; made by “nadiezda

All eight members of India and Juliet Squads from "The Road to Cydonia" my Ranma/X-Com fanfic. From left to right –

Juliet Squad:

Ukyou, Shampoo, Konatsu, Ranma

India Squad:

Ryouga, Mousse, Kuno, Ryu

Ranma Saotome - Juliet Squad - Squad Leader

(02/07/09)

Ranma himself, this time. The somewhat reluctant leader of Juliet Squad (Ranma-Ukyou-Shampoo-Konatsu), Ranma is likely the most powerful individual in the two squads, vying for that position with his rival Ryouga Hibiki. Approaching the end of TRTC, Ranma has developed his ability to create and manipulate temperature extremes and wind effects to a degree that surpasses even Cologne. So I tried to make a pic of him that represented the hot and cold he uses to form his most potent techniques. I also tried out some new effects with this piece.

Shan Pu - Juliet Squad - Fire Support

(02/07/09)

More Ranma 1/2 TRTC stuff! This time, its Shan Pu (Shampoo); like Ukyou, she's also on Ranma's Juliet Squad. She's wearing light personal armor (stealth recon spec) like the two squads used in a few missions, most notably the "Winter Triangle" operation. Only parts she doesn't have on are the uppermost torso section and the two pieces of the integrated helmet - you can see those on a table nearby. She's checking the ammo on a UNETCO (x-com) spec plasma pistol, which the squads become certified for around Chapter 24.

Ukyou Kuonji - Juliet Squad - Demolitions

(02/07/09)

Since I'm trying to finish up TRTC ("The Road to Cydonia" my Ranma 1/2 X-COM crossover), I figure some pics are in order. The first one is Ukyou, done with a hard day's training and packing up her gear. I tried a new perspective with this pic, based off of one I saw in a manga. In fact, I've seen this type of perspective pic done in a few places (close in to the face, feet zoom away), but mine only came out so-so. Sorry Ucchan! I'll do better next time.

The Resurrection of Terra

(02/04/08)

I made this for a good comrade of mine, Lathis, who wrote some rather impressive fanfiction that caught my eye, some time ago. As a fellow writer, he has been a valuable resource, in addition to a source of continually high quality fanfiction. In particular, he writes an interesting crossover scenario (Teen Titans/Ranma 1/2) that is currently on the verge of its third novel legnth adventure. This pic, the "Ressurection of Terra" coincides with how I imagine things may occur in that next sequel.

X-COM Beware: Snakemen!

(11/19/07)

TRTC readers can guess I have something of a nostalgic soft spot for Snakemen. I still maintain that they were, ironically, probably the most human aliens in the XCOM verse-setting circa the First Alien War. They weren't all mindless drones, or castrated mind-controlled killing machines, or floating corpses animated by insane psi powers... they always struck me as just a mercenary species who happened to be working for/with the aliens running the Earth Experiment. Plus, they introduced us to the ever lovable Chryssalid from which I get my name!

Anyway: in this version of the pic you can see the original UFOpedia non-autopsy Snakeman picture. I actually made this pic pretty quickly. Hmm. I guess I should've spent more time on the alien plasma rifle, but... bo ho ho... I'm so lazy...

Rivals: Ranma & Ryouga

(11/19/07)

Went for a sort of stylistic approach to this pic, like with those over detailed dueling statues you see in manga and stuff. Hence why the two here are more ripped (and murderously intense) than normal. Originally, I'd planned for both of them to be firing their emotive ki blasts behind the other, as each blocked the other's blow, but it looked too un-natural. Perhaps another time I'll get it just right. Until then, at least we get a shishi hokoudan that came out right.

TRTC Cologne Contrast

(11/19/07)

Not a lot of pics of the old ghoul around... which shouldn't surprise anyone, I guess. Young Cologne aka Cologne-chan has been a staple of Ranma 1/2 fanfiction since The Beginning. In TRTC, I'm using her as an antagonist.

It was interesting trying to contrast a sexy young Cologne with the normal (super old) one, based on some of the little bits of her past we see in the manga. Here, the young version is wearing the Ethereal cloak she "acquired" in TRTC Chapter 23, though she's ruined it showing off one of her HaxxoR special techniques that'll show up in a few chapters. Cologne-chan has been hyped up a good deal in TRTC in expectation of a big ass showdown with the protagonist Big Guns of Ranma and Ryouga. At the moment, as I write Chapter 24, she's getting almost an entire chapter to herself in backstory.

Ranma, Ryouga & Herb: Akatsuki Temps

(11/19/07)

Yes, I actually did this a day or so after Halloween, when I noted some of the holiday pics done here and there. I never did one before, but I was working on my Ranma 1/2-XCOM crossover "The Road to Cydonia" at the time, and I was struck by the silliness of putting the three UNETCO Special Lieutenants in Akatsuki attire. Ryouga was, obviously, based on Kisame, Herb on Pain, and Ranma is a sort of mix of Itachi and Hidan.

XCOM: Pinpricks of Scarlet

(3/26/07)

A pic I made while planning the next Chapter of "The Road to Cydonia" (chapter 16). Started out as just a sketch of an XCOM "Stealth Suit" which is basically modified "scout type" light personal armor. Afterward, I tried my hand at inking and then giving the picture some urban camo colors.

TRTC: India Squad

(3/16/07)

It really has been too long since I've practiced a more anime-style drawing. Well, only trial and error will correct that.

This is a recent attempt at drawing all four members of India Squad from my Ranma 1/2 XCOM crossover fanfic project "The Road to Cydonia." India Squad is the assault oriented martial artist squad, while Juliet Squad (Ranma, Ukyou, Shampoo and Konatsu) is stealth/recon oriented.

XCOM: Don't Get Hurt

(3/12/07)

One of two versions of this pic - the other had a slightly different pose.

The XCOM personal armor design is the same as that established for TRTC ("The Road to Cydonia" fanfic) and in other pics, but with the helmet included this time. The human-version plasma is a bullpup type, but the alien plasma is the normal layout. The Muton came out a bit short by comparison to the guy about to ambush it. Oh well. Combat takes place around yet another nondescript farm in the countryside.

TRTC Ryu Kumon

(10/04/06)

This is a pic of Ryu Kumon from my crossover Ranma/XCOM fanfic 'The Road to Cydonia"

Ryu is a somewhat minor character from Ranma ½ (while the rest of the main cast in the fic are the main cast from the manga). A serious and driven young man, he learned the dangerous Yamasenken set of techniques, and in attempting to get the counterpart Umisenken, he lost to Ranma (who then forced him to seal up the Yamasenken as they were ‘forbidden techniques’). Ryu eagerly joins India Squad once he learns that not only will Ranma let him use the Yamasenken again, but that he will get paid handsomely for his help.

Like most of the cast, Ryu is 18 by the time of TRTC. He is pictured here with full kit PA-3 Personal Armor, and a T7A2 ALR (Adv. Laser Rifle). He is wearing a do-rag with the kanji for luck/fortune (so that his hair won’t get in the way when he puts on his helmet). One of the strongest and most capable martial artists in the two squads, Ryu continues to develop the “Kumon Reformed” style of the Yamasenken, while fighting in India Squad. He typically has the all important position of Squad Pointman.

TRTC Tatewaki Kuno

(10/04/06)

This is a pic of Kuno from my crossover Ranma/XCOM fanfic 'The Road to Cydonia"

Kuno is the oldest member of the two squads, at 19. He is a master kendoist and swordsman, and he is drawn here with his new sword, Tenrai Hououkendo or Heavenly Thunder Phoenix Sword (his family blade having been destroyed in his first mission). Kuno does not rely much on agility, so he had no problem wearing heavier full kit PA-3 armor under his kendo robes instead of the lighter scout configuration. The gauntlets are part of his new style, adapted to the battlefield. Kuno is the backup man in India Squad.

TRTC Ukyou Kuonji

(9/27/06)

A pic of Ukyou Kuonji from my crossover Ranma/XCOM fanfic 'The Road to Cydonia" circa her duel with Konatsu.

Like all the characters, she's a few years older than her canon self in the Ranma 1/2 manga. She's wearing a modified set of PA-3 Personal Armor, and her hair is kept in a ponytail ala her manga introduction story. The heavy gloves are for handling her new 'megaspatula,' called "Herasama" (or Spatula-sama) which is made of (alien) exotic alloys. As is obvious, she's made a few special modifications to it...

TRTC Mousse

(9/27/06)

This is a pic of Mousse from my crossover Ranma/XCOM fanfic 'The Road to Cydonia"

Like all the characters, Mousse is 18 or older by this point, and so he looks a little older than normal. The Master of Hidden Weapons, Mousse has already "taken his Art to the next level" and modified his normal equipment by the time he gets into his first real fight in TRTC. Mousse typically wears a black or white robe over his PA-3 Personal Armor, as well as special gloves necessary for one of his new techniques. His position as the stealth-man/scout of India Squad (Ryouga, Mousse, Ryu and Kuno) is ironic given his naturally terrible vision without glasses.

TRTC Title Pic

(5/14/05)

This slightly old pic came from when I first started work on TRTC. It was a pic of Ryouga Hibiki in typical XCOM (or UNETCO) Power Armor. The design was a bit of a mix between the original old powered armor from the first game, and some more anime-ish influences, including Jin Roh. The kanji on his left shoulder means "Death," and the rifle he has is a Type-II Plasma Rifle. The new UFOpedia, however, is more representitive of how these things actually appear in the story.
